Successful treatment with intravenous immunoglobulins in a patient with intestinal pseudo-obstruction associated with systemic lupus erythematosus

چکیده
Gastrointestinal involvement in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is very diverse, and the frequency of occurrence and location along the digestive tract varies widely. Inflammatory processes secondary to immune complex deposits or vascular events may cause this involvement. One of the most characteristic gastrointestinal manifestations in these patients is the intestinal pseudo-obstruction, which is defined as the ineffective intestinal propulsion that occurs in the absence of mechanical or obstructive factors. This is, however, a rare and poorly understood complication of SLE. The case is presented of a male SLE patient presenting with intestinal pseudo-obstruction, and was successfully treated with steroids and intravenous immunoglobulin. A complete review of the literature and a proposal for the pathophysiology of intestinal pseudo-obstruction are presented. © 2017 Asociación Colombiana de Reumatología. Three cases of systemic lupus erythematosus and review of the mechanisms concerning treatment with intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG).
The systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disorder with a broad array of clinical signs. In this research, we aimed to use intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG) called intacglobin as monotherapy to manage an SLE in three patients. Laboratory investigations for SLE diagnosis were done, including the detection of anti-nuclear antibodies (ANA) and SLE confirmation by detecting high tite...

متن کاملAcute lupus pneumonitis followed by intestinal pseudo-obstruction in systemic lupus erythematosus: A case report
Intestinal pseudo-obstruction (IpsO) and acute lupus pneumonitis (ALP) are uncommon severe complications of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The present study reports the case of a 26-year-old female who presented with abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting as initial symptoms. Computed tomography (CT) scanning revealed the jejunal wall was thickened and streaky, mimicking the presentation of i...

A 50-year-old Japanese woman, a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) complicated with chronic lupus peritonitis, developed massive small intestinal hemorrhaging. She was treated with intravenous pulse of methylprednisolone, intravenous pulse of cyclophosphamide (IVCY), and immunoabsorption, but the peritonitis was refractory to these treatments. Subsequently, she was treated with ora...
متن کاملSuccessful intravenous immunoglobulin treatment for steroid-resistant eosinophilic enteritis in a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus.
Eosinophilic gastroenteritis is a rare condition of unknown etiology characterized by eosinophilic infiltration of the bowel. Corticosteroids are the mainstay of EG therapy. Although rare, steroid-resistant EG could be a life-threatening condition with tissue destructive evolution. Associations of eosinophilic gastroenteritis with systemic lupus erythematosus have rarely been reported. In this ...
